July saw five of the ladies who live at Holderness House take part in the Hull & East Riding Care Home Games 2014. Pictured with staff from the House are Edith, Barbara, Ivy, Joan and Ellen, who all participated in the annual sporting event at Beverley Leisure Centre on July 10th.

All the ladies received medals and certificates for taking part in the Boccia American Bowls competition. This is the third year ladies from Holderness House have attended after taking part in a 10-week activity programme Active Gold, for over 65s, including practicing the game of Boccia for an hour every Wednesday. This year the ladies won all three games they entered but lost on points.

Boccia is a bowling tournament using red, white and blue balls and this year the ladies from Holderness House competed against 16 care homes from around Hull and the East Riding. The annual event is run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council and activehull.co.uk, to encourage physical activity among residents.
